IRCTC Facilities: Major announcements made, online and offline booking of resting rooms

In a recent video tweeted on Saturday, August 24, 2019, Indian Railways gave detailed information regarding retiring rooms’ facilities on railway stations as well as the process to book the facilities online. IRCTC will also offer various classes of ‘Retiring Room’ facilities to its passengers and this will be applicable to different stations all across the country.

As per the announcement, the Indian Railways will allow people to book retiring rooms at different rates for various classes – these will be available in Single, Double, and Dormitory type of occupancy, both with AC and Non AC combination.

The rates for the aforementioned facilities were announced by Indian Railways. While the retiring rooms can be booked offline, IRCTC will now allow the online booking /cancellation of Railways Retiring Room.

The announcement says that a passenger can book a Railway retiring room for a minimum window of 3 hours and it can then be extended to the maximum duration of 48 hours.

How to book Indian Railways retiring room online:

One has to follow the given steps

Step 1: Go to official website of IRCTC Tourism at (

Step 2: Click on “Retiring Room” link

Step 3: As per your choice, book a retiring room

Step 4: As soon as the room is booked, the passenger will receive a confirmation

This is how to book Indian Railways retiring room offline:

Step 1: Walk over to the nearest major Railway Station which has a retiring room and also has an online booking facility

Step 2: You then need to provide the PNR along with a status of the confirmed or RAC ticket
