We all have a journey of our own, and every journey is beautiful: Miss Trans Queen Nitasha Biswas

The journey to self-discovery is often full of hurdles and brickbats. However, the ones who persevere become an inspiration for millions. Nitasha Biswas is one such personality.

Having born as a boy in a conservative Bengali family, Nitasha’s journey of self-realization began at 22 and at the age of 26, she won the prestigious title of Miss Trans Queen India.

Nitasha – a TedX speaker and Goodwill Ambassador at Project Kartavya – shares her experiences in a conversation with youngnfab. Here are the excerpts:

What does your journey to success look like?

We all have our own journey and every journey is beautiful in its own way. Ofcourse, it was a tough path to pave and liberate myself to become the person I am today. As Rome was not built in one day, it’s my dedication and my hard work that lead me to my goals.

What do you mean when you say ‘beauty has no gender’?

With time I discovered that we create the beauty around us with the way we see everything. Hence, it’s not only women who can be beautiful; it’s the way one sees it. Gender cannot be classified into categories. Beauty can be seen anywhere; it’s just the way we see and perceive it.

What is the biggest challenge that you have faced?

The biggest challenge was understanding myself; society, people, family, all came later. Understanding myself was a huge task. The day I made a judgment, I was prepared to be what I wanted to become.

What is your mantra of success?

It is simple – there’s no stopping you from reaching your goals if you have hard work and dedication. Start working on yourself today. Remember you only have one life.

How do you see social media as a tool for inspiring others?

Social media definitely helped me in leading the movement I started four years back and I believe it has helped a lot of other gender diaspora individuals to understand themselves. It is more of becoming a mentor to many and it feels good to help others as it is important that we reach out to everyone seeking support.

Nitasha is an active social media influencer and regularly updates her posts to connect with her followers. Her advice to everyone is “keep a big heart and accommodate all the people you can. Respect each other and make this world a better place to live.”

I am a pahadi and I had a friend who was in the LGBTQ spectrum. He fled coz it was hard for him to live in this society and I totally believe that if inspirations like Nitasha existed at that time, he would have rose to great heights.
