Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh inaugurated Arogya Fair- 2018 in the presence of Union Minister of State for AYUSH (Independent Charge), Shripad Yesso Naik at City Convention Centre in Imphal East District.
The four-day fair is organized to showcase revitalization of the traditional system of medicines (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy), market promotion and processing of medicinal and aromatic plants, income generation, and scientific approaches.
Speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest, N. Biren Singh said that Manipur accounts for a fraction of a per cent of the total land area of the Earth. However, of the total 10,000 identified medicinal and aromatic plants found in different parts of the world, Manipur has around 500 varieties, he said.
He further informed that the state government is targeting with a firm effort to hand over the Ayush Hospital being constructed at Keirao in Imphal East by February next year. N Biren Singh further said that he had discussed with the visiting Union Minister about providing an alternative livelihood through the plantation of medicinal plants to the villagers, who are planting poppy and cannabis. N. Biren Singh further informed that Shri Naik asked him to submit a DPR on the project to the Ministry for approval.
Stating that Manipur is now able to send out positive vibes to other states and countries with the coming of the new state government, he said that a team of Japanese corporate executives called on him yesterday and sought nursing manpower to work in different hospitals of their country.
For this, they wish to encourage local women from Manipur to take up nursing training in Japan. Chief Minister Singh has also asked the Japanese companies set up training centers in Manipur which will also be helpful in generating employment.
