You must surely have heard people telling to soak almond overnight and then eat it in the morning! Ever wondered why? Did it ever leave you confused? If so, then read on to know the reason behind it. Many people love almonds and not to be surprised everybody knows about the health benefits it provides and includes it in their daily diet. But few of us know that soaking almonds and then consuming it provides more nutrition to our body as compared to raw almonds.

Yes, it brings a little change in taste. Before soaking, almonds taste a little bitter and crunchy while after soaking, it gives a smooth texture to the almond and tastes somewhat like butter. So you may like it! Soaked almonds are better because the peel of almond contains tannin, which inhibits nutrient absorption. Soaking the almonds makes it easy to take off the peel, which allows the nuts to release all the nutrients easily. Almonds have a rough texture which makes it difficult to digest. Soaking almonds can help us take out the peel easily and is thus considered to be good for digestion as well. Soaking may make almonds easier to chew, increasing nutrient availability. And you don’t have to buy soaked almonds from the market. Just follow a few simple steps and you are done! 

Place almonds in a bowl and add warm water to fully cover them and sprinkle about 1 tablespoon of salt over it. Cover the bowl and let it sit overnight 8 to 12 hours. Drain and rinse it in the morning and remove its peel. Pat the almond dry. The soaked nut can be eaten immediately. Always remember, excess of anything is bad and so is this!  Regular almond intake is associated with weight loss, reduced LDL (bad) cholesterol levels, and increased HDL (good) cholesterol levels, blood sugar control, and fullness.
