FOODS THAT HELP FIGHT CANCER
No food protects people against cancer completely. The term cancer-fighting
foods refer to foods that may lower the risk of developing cancer if a person adds
them to their diet. Food does more than fill our tummies; it keeps us healthy and
sometimes even has cancer-fighting properties. Most of us know the foods that
pack on pounds: burgers, ice cream, chips, and more.
But what you eat goes beyond whether you’ll fit into your jeans. Healthful foods
also may keep cancer at bay.
Here are some of the food you should consume in
order to avoid cancer.
1. Sip green tea throughout your day. Green tea is a powerful antioxidant and may
be an important part of an anti-cancer diet. Green tea, a cancer-fighting food,
may be helpful in preventing liver, breast, pancreatic, lung, esophageal, and skin
cancer. A non-toxic chemical found in green tea acts against urokinase (an enzyme
crucial for cancer growth). One cup of green tea contains between 100 and 200
milligrams (mg) of this anti-tumor ingredient.
2. Eat garlic. Garlic contains unique antioxidant phytochemicals that seem to
intervene in several steps of the cancer process. These compounds inhibit colon
tumor formation and cell growth.
3. Flaxseed contains an antioxidant called lignans, which may help the body rid
itself of carcinogens, and omega-3 fatty acids, which are believed to reduce
inflammation and boost the body’s immune system.
4. Eat more tomatoes. The antioxidant lycopene, which is in tomatoes, is said to be
more powerful than beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, and vitamin E. Lycopene is a
cancer-fighting food associated with protection against certain cancers such
as prostate and lung cancer. Be sure to cook the tomatoes, as this method
releases the lycopene and makes it available to your body.
5. WHOLE GRAINS- Unlike refined grains, whole grains have the bran and germ
layers, which are packed with antioxidants and other nutrients.
They also contain fiber, which, when fermented in the colon, may produce
substances that protect cells from cancer-causing agents.
