Prone to anxiety attacks? This is why you should have plenty of curd daily

There are so many advantages of incorporating probiotics in your regular diet – it not only helps regulate gut bacteria but also acts as a supplement to perform critical functions pertaining to the immune system and metabolism. Also, it helps improve brain function which is a way of managing the anxiety, as per researchers.

These probiotics are primarily living organisms which are found naturally in some foods and they are also known as ‘good’ or ‘friendly’ bacteria because they help fight the harmful bacteria and prevent them from settling in the gut.
“Gut microbiota can help regulate brain function through something called the ‘gut-brain axis,” found the researchers from the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.

There was a study conducted in order to reach this conclusion in which the researchers reviewed as many as 21 studies which assessed as many as 1,503 people collectively. The results were overwhelming as the team found that probiotic supplements in seven studies within their analysis contained only one kind of probiotic, in two studies there was a use of two kinds of probiotics and the supplements used in the remainder had at least three kinds of probiotics.

The results which were deciphered painted a very definite picture. Out of the 21 studies, in 11 the introduction of probiotics showed regulation in the intestinal microbiota, which effectively meant that more than 50 per cent of the people were benefitting from this diet.

“People who experience anxiety symptoms might be helped by taking steps to regulate the microorganisms in their gut using probiotic and non-probiotic food and supplements,” suggested the review of studies published in the journal General Psychiatry.

So what should you eat?

Yoghurt: This is perhaps the best source of probiotics, which are friendly bacteria that can improve your health.
However, this cannot be treated as the only solution to dealing with anxiety issues. There is still a lot to be researched in this area.
