Lemons can not only help to improve the taste of your dish and make it tangy but also help to lighten your hair. It is a good source of vitamin C and can help to boost your immune system and reduce inflammation. They have bleaching properties and is therefore used in many face wash and skin care products to reduce skin related issues.  Lemon juice can also help to lighten the hair color and reduce oil and dandruff and give a shiny effect to hair.

The citric acid present in lemon juice is natural bleach and an oxidizing agent. It whitens your hair by chemically reducing your hair’s color pigment and melanin. When exposed to the sun, the citric acid affects the bleaching process. Lemon juice works best for lighter hair colours but it is quite unnoticeable for people with dark hair colours. Since lockdown is a great time to experiment new things, why not try to bleach hair with something as natural as lemon juice. Here are few steps that are needed to be taken while bleaching your hair with lemon juice.

Though results can vary and be very minor for people with dark hair colour, but nothing would harm you for that. So why not try it. Take a lemon and squeeze it over a glass of warm water and pour it into an empty spray bottle. Spray it over your hair focusing on the areas you want to lighten and sit out with your hair facing the sun for 1 or 2 hours. Yes, the citric acid won’t react unless it doesn’t get heat so once the sun’s heat opens the hair cuticles, it can be used to lift the colour. It can have a side effect as well. Since this low-cost lightening method isn’t as drying as bleach, lemon juice is still acidic and can have a dehydrating effect over your hair.
